Fate or Free Will - Bible vs Quran

One of the most important aspect of Islam is the Fate, Many muslims when they pray they ask for a good fate. It is also evident from hadith narrated by Ali ibn talib that when you pray ask for a better destiny. Its stated in Many hadith that when a child is still in the mother’s womb his destiny and his deeds is written.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah puts an angel in charge of the uterus and the angel says, 'O Lord, (it is) semen! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.' And then, if Allah wishes to complete its creation, the angel asks, 'O Lord, (will it be) a male or a female? A wretched (an evil doer) or a blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? What will his age be?' So all that is written while the creature is still in the mother's womb." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6595)

So please read if the person will be an evil doer or a good doer. So before a child is born all his deeds are written.

'A'isha, the mother of the believers, said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was called to lead the funeral prayer of a child of the Ansar. I said:
Allah's Messenger, there is happiness for this child who is a bird from the birds of Paradise for it committed no sin nor has he reached the age when one can commit sin. He said: 'A'isha, per adventure, it may be otherwise, because God created for Paradise those who are fit for it while they were yet in their father's loins and created for Hell those who are to go to Hell. He created them for Hell while they were yet in their father's loins. (Sahih Muslim 2662 c)

Hence even if a child dies muslims are asked to offer his funeral prayer for him to be sent to paradise as his destiny was already written, and maybe the prayers of others might change the destiny.
Quran actually confirms these hadith

Whoever Allah guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - it is those who are the losers. (Quran 7:178)
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless. (Quran 7:179)

So Allah guides only the ones who he likes to guide, and send astray who he likes to send astray. Also if allah created some of the jinn and mankind for Hell then what is the fault of those mankind and jinn. Why is there a punishment or a reward. Allah said the same in another verse In another location of Quran allah says the same thing in a different way.

And if Allah had willed, He could have made you one, but He causes to stray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And you will surely be questioned about what you used to do. (Quran 16:93)

Say, "With Allah is the far-reaching argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all." (Quran 6:149)

Hence allah doesn’t want to guide all of the people. He creates some for Hell and some for heaven. The question now is why allah doesn’t guide everyone. This is explained in another verse of Quran.

And if we had willed, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me will come into effect [that] "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together. (Quran 32:13)

What does this word means by saying the "word from me", did allah promised somewhere about it? Yes he sure did in quran

Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."(Quran 11:119)

Allah has created hell and he wants to fill it with Jinn and mankind, and hence he is guiding some and not guiding others. The ones he guides it's his mercy and thats it. This is a very strange concept because if a person is in this world and there is a reward and punishment then it should be based on his own free will not that the divine power didn’t made him do good deeds.

Now the question still remains is it really punishment? Here is the verse from quran again:

Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment. (Quran 2:7)

So first allah has put seal, and created their destiny with good or evil doing while he was in the mother’s womb and then he created hell and will punish them in hell for the evil doing which he made them do. Let me end this with another hadith

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), the truthful and truly-inspired, said, "Each one of you collected in the womb of his mother for forty days, and then turns into a clot for an equal period (of forty days) and turns into a piece of flesh for a similar period (of forty days) and then Allah sends an angel and orders him to write four things, i.e., his provision, his age, and whether he will be of the wretched or the blessed (in the Hereafter). Then the soul is breathed into him. And by Allah, a person among you (or a man) may do deeds of the people of the Fire till there is only a cubit or an arm-breadth distance between him and the Fire, but then that writing (which Allah has ordered the angel to write) precedes, and he does the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters it; and a man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise till there is only a cubit or two between him and Paradise, and then that writing precedes and he does the deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6594)

After looking at Islamic point of view from Quran and Hadith, let’s see a few verses in Bible to see what GOD actually wants his mankind to do and what is his will for his creation.

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.(Deuteronomy 30:19-20)

Starting from Adam and Eve, GOD always gave a choice to humans and He clearly identified the free will again in Deuteronomy and asked the people to chose, and find a way that you desire, the good or bad has been told and choice is given.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. (1 Timothy 2:1-6)

GOD is good, and we should thank him and pray and do good deeds and that’s what he likes, you have a free will.

12. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Roman 10:12-13)

Call his name, and be saved. Humans by nature are sinners and GOD wants us to repent and ask for forgiveness and he forgives.

9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2Peter 3:9)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

God doesn’t want us to go to hell, he did not created hell to put mankind in it and fill it because he likes to punish. He is our father, who wants to save us and gave us all the scriptures and prophets to guide us and finally Jesus himself came down to dwell with us to guide us, no where in bible GOD wants to send people to hell, or created them for hell. What a loving lord our GOD is.
