Muhammad and Slaves |
---|
Islam came to give rights to women and remove slavery….. We have already seen the rights of women in Islam. If not click here Now let’s see removal of slavery by Muhammad. He is the prophet of islam and so called the gratest prophet of all times. If you haven’t read about him please click here
Slaves were property and Arabs traded slaves. Muhammad the greatest prophet removed slavery per Islamic concepts. Muslim love to mention Bilal the black slave which was given the honorable duty of call to prayer and somehow this is suppose to show that he honored slaves or even black slaves. Bilal made himself removed from that scared duty right after the death of Muhammad which muslims claim that he was so sad that he couldn’t perform that duty …. (yes, please no laughing)
Arab slave trading which was even before Muhammad but let’s only talk about the Islamic slave trading which lasted the longest from the 7th century to the 20th century. Most of which are black slaves and usually castrated. Throughout Muhammad’s life he not only owned slaves but also involved in trading of slaves.

Muhammad's black slave camel driver
Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle was on a journey and he had a black slave called Anjasha, and he was driving the camels (very fast, and there were women riding on those camels). Allah's Apostle ﷺ said, "Waihaka (May Allah be merciful to you), O Anjasha! Drive slowly (the camels) with the glass vessels (women)!" (Sahih Bukhari 8:73:182 or Sahih al-Bukhari, 6161)
Muhammad's black slave at home
Narrated `Umar: I came and behold, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was staying on a Mashroba (attic room) and a black slave of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was at the top if its stairs. I said to him, "(Tell the Prophet) that here is `Umar bin Al- Khattab (asking for permission to enter)." Then he admitted me. (Sahih Bukhari 9:91:368 or Sahih Bukhari 7263)
Muhammad Received Black Slaves as gift
We went out in the company of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the day of (the battle of) Khaibar, and we did not get any gold or silver as war booty, but we got property in the form of things and clothes. Then a man called Rifa`a bin Zaid, from the tribe of Bani Ad-Dubaib, presented a slave named Mid`am to Allah's Apostle. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) headed towards the valley of Al-Qura, and when he was in the valley of Al- Qura an arrow was thrown by an unidentified person, struck and killed Mid`am who was making a she-camel of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kneel down. The people said, "Congratulations to him (the slave) for gaining Paradise." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "No! By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, for the sheet which he stole from the war booty before its distribution on the day of Khaibar, is now burning over him." When the people heard that, a man brought one or two Shiraks (leather straps of shoes) to the Prophet. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A Shirak of fire, or two Shiraks of fire." (Sahih al-Bukhari 8:78:698 or Sahih al-Bukhari 6707)
Muhammad's Slave escorted Aiesha
… She replied, "Yes, by Allah." I returned to my house, astonished (and distressed) that I did not know for what purpose I had gone out. Then I became sick (fever) and said to Allah's Apostle "Send me to my father's house." So he sent a slave with me, and when I entered the house, I found Um Rum-an (my mother) downstairs while (my father) Abu Bakr was reciting something upstairs … (hadith is very long I have shortened it for the purpose of showing slaves) (Sahih Bukhari 6:60:281or Arabic reference Book 65, Hadith 4757)
Muhammad with his slave girl at home
.. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah. He said: O Abu Dharr. I kept silence. He then said: May your mother bereave you, Abu Dharr: woe be to your mother. He then called a black slave-girl for me. She brought a vessel which contained water…. (Sunan Abi Dawud 332)

Muhammad as slave trader
There came a slave and pledged allegiance to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) on migration; he (the Holy Prophet) did not know that he was a slave. Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: Sell him to me. And he bought him for two black slaves, and he did not afterwards take allegiance from anyone until he had asked him whether he was a slave (or a free man) ( Sahih Muslim 1602 or Book 10, Hadith 3901)
and also let's see what people were doing in front of Muhammad to the sex slaves they had, even when they bore their children....
“We used to sell our slave women and the mothers of our children (Umahat Awaldina) when the Prophet (ﷺ) was still living among us, and we did not see anything wrong with that.” Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 3, Book 19, Hadith 2517
Muhammad canceled freeing of slave and sold the slave.
Narrated Jabir: A man manumitted a slave and he had no other property than that, so the Prophet (ﷺ) canceled the manumission (and sold the slave for him). Nu'aim bin Al-Nahham bought the slave from him. Sahih al-Bukhari 2415 or Vol. 3, Book 41, Hadith 598
an addition to this it was said the slave died the same year, so the last year of that slave he couldn't enjoy freedom because of Muhammad.
Narrated Jabir: A man amongst us declared that his slave would be freed after his death. The Prophet (ﷺ) called for that slave and sold him. The slave died the same year. Sahih al-Bukhari 2534
It was narrated from 'Imran bin Husain that : a man had six slaves, and he did not have any other wealth apart from them, and he set them free when he died. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) divided them into groups, set two free and left four as slaves. Sunan Ibn Majah 2345

Slave as Blood Money - Muhammad
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf from Abu Hurayra: that a woman from the Hudhayl tribe threw a stone at a woman from the same tribe, and she had a miscarriage. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave a judgement that a slave or slave-girl of fair complexion and excellence should be given to her. Muwatta Malik » Blood-Money - كتاب العقول Book 43, Hadith 5
Don't free slave but give to your family - Muhammad
Narrated Kuraib:
the freed slave of Ibn `Abbas, that Maimuna bint Al-Harith told him that she manumitted a slave-girl without taking the permission of the Prophet. On the day when it was her turn to be with the Prophet, she said, "Do you know, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), that I have manumitted my slave-girl?" He said, "Have you really?" She replied in the affirmative. He said, "You would have got more reward if you had given her (i.e. the slave-girl) to one of your maternal uncles."
(Sahih al-Bukhari 2592 or Vol. 3, Book 47, Hadith 765)

When we approach near to a nation, the most unfortunate is the morning of those who have been warned." The people came out into the streets saying, "Muhammad and his army." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) vanquished them by force and their warriors were killed; the children and women were taken as captives. Safiya was taken by Dihya Al-Kalbi and later she belonged to Allah's Apostle go who married her and her Mahr was her manumission. Sahih al-Bukhari 947 or Vol. 2, Book 14, Hadith 68
Muhammad giving away slaves like carrots

He took Safiyyah daughter of Huyayy. A man then came to the Prophet and said “You gave Safiyyah daughter of Huyayy, chief lady of Quraizah and Al Nadir to Dihyah? This is according to the version of Ya’qub. Then the agreed version goes “she is worthy of you.” He said “call him along with her. When the Prophet (ﷺ) looked at her, he said to him “take another slave girl from the captives. The Prophet (ﷺ) then set her free and married her. Sunan Abi Dawud 2998

Narrated 'Abdul 'Aziz: Anas said, 'When Allah's Apostle invaded Khaibar, we offered the Fajr prayer there yearly in the morning) when it was still dark. The Prophet rode and Abu Talha rode too and I was riding behind Abu Talha. The Prophet ﷺ passed through the lane of Khaibar quickly and my knee was touching the thigh of the Prophet . He uncovered his thigh and I saw the whiteness of the thigh of the Prophet. When he entered the town, he said, 'Allahu Akbar! Khaibar is ruined. Whenever we approach near a (hostile) nation (to fight) then evil will be the morning of those who have been warned.' He repeated this thrice. The people came out for their jobs and some of them said, 'Muhammad (has come).' (Some of our companions added, "With his army.") We conquered Khaibar, took the captives, and the booty was collected. Dihya came and said, 'O Allah's Prophet! Give me a slave girl from the captives.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Go and take any slave girl.' He took Safiya bint Huyai. ....." Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 1, Book of Prayer 8, Hadith 367 or Sahih al-Bukhari, 371
Muhammad and Aisha enjoying slaves
Narrated 'Urwa on the authority of 'Aisha: On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine and the Prophet was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them and the Prophet uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id and the days of Mina." 'Aisha further said, "Once the Prophet was screening me and I was watching the display of black slaves in the Mosque and ('Umar) scolded them. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Leave them. O Bani Arfida! (carry on), you are safe (protected)'. Sahih al-Bukhari, 987 and Sahih al-Bukhari, 988, Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 2, Book of The Two Festivals (Eids), Hadith 103

Slave and Free man not Equal
Allah presents an example:
a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allah ! But most of them do not know. (Quran 16:75)
But then muslim say look at context context … lets look the verse 71And Allah has favored some of you over others in provision. But those who were favored would not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess so they would be equal to them therein. Then is it the favor of Allah they reject? (Quran 16:71)
So now you have context as well, and then you say everyone is equal … but per allah slave is not equal to a free and Muhammad and all his friends had many slaves as we saw above.Go have sex with slave women - Muhammad
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (Allah her pleased with him) reported that at the Battle of Hanain Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an army to Autas and encountered the enemy and fought with them. Having overcome them and taken them captives, the Companions of Allah's Messenger (may peace te upon him) seemed to refrain from having intercourse with captive women because of their husbands being polytheists. Then Allah, Most High, sent down regarding that:" And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess (iv. 24)" (i. e. they were lawful for them when their 'Idda period came to an end). Sahih Muslim, 1456a or Sahih Muslim, Vol. 4, Book of Marriage, Hadith 3432
Enjoy sex with Slave girls - Muhammad
Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: I have a slave-girl who is our servant and she carries water for us and I have intercourse with her, but I do not want her to conceive. He said: Practise 'azl, if you so like, but what is decreed for her will come to her. The person stayed back (for some time) and then came and said: The girl has become pregnant, whereupon he said: I told you what was decreed for her would come to her. Sahih Muslim 1439 a, Book 16, Hadith 159
Sex with Khumus - Muhammad
Khumus is the one fifth portion of the certain possession which is to be paid to the islamic state ... now see in the following hadith what is being paid as Khumus and what is being done with the Khumus before it was being paied to the state and replies of Muhammad the collector of Khumus.
Narrated Buraida: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent `Ali to Khalid to bring the Khumus (of the booty) and I hated `Ali, and `Ali had taken a bath (after a sexual act with a slave-girl from the Khumus). I said to Khalid, "Don't you see this (i.e. `Ali)?" When we reached the Prophet (ﷺ) I mentioned that to him. He said, "O Buraida! Do you hate `Ali?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you hate him, for he deserves more than that from the Khumlus." Sahih al-Bukhari 4350
Muhammad and Sex with Slave
It was narrated from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah had a female slave with whom he had intercourse, but 'Aishah and Hafsah would not leave him alone until he said that she was forbidden for him. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "O Prophet! Why do you forbid (for yourself) that which Allah has allowed to you.' until the end of the Verse. Sunnan an-Nasa 3959
the reference in the hadith is of the following verse:
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.(Quran 66:1)
the verse is a bit unclear even when you have a hadith above but let's also corelate it with Tafsir al-Jalalayn:
O Prophet! Why do you prohibit what God has made lawful for you in terms of your Coptic handmaiden Māriya — when he lay with her in the house of Hafsa who had been away but who upon returning and finding out became upset by the fact that this had taken place in her own house and on her own bed — by saying ‘She is unlawful for me!’ seeking by making her unlawful for you to please your wives? And God is Forgiving Merciful having forgiven you this prohibition
so If Muhammad having sex with slave girls are still not evident even when we had so many hadith above let's see another Quran verse below where allah is so called talking with Muhammad directly:
O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their due compensation and those your right hand possesses from what Allah has returned to you [of captives] and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet [and] if the Prophet wishes to marry her, [this is] only for you, excluding the [other] believers. We certainly know what We have made obligatory upon them concerning their wives and those their right hands possess, [but this is for you] in order that there will be upon you no discomfort. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful(Quran 33:50)
conclusion
Didn't islam came to free humans from slavery? but what is happening? all the hadith and Quran references...... Is there any verse in Quran which says slave trading is wrong or it is a sin? Now let's see what is the teaching of our Lord Jesus:
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me. (1 Timothy 1:8-11)
Now I would ask which teaching is right? or what sounds moral? do you still want to follow an arab of 6th century who knows nothing more than what was already established as norm at that time or would you follow someone who came 600 years before but told the world what is right and what is wrong?
